The Cork Harbour Cycle is a sponsored challenge for the ordinary cyclist on a 40Km. route around the harbour. This is the 11th year and it is the main fundraiser for Africa Direct an all voluntary organisation based in Cork.
Cyclist funds have achieved a lot over the years.
•In Kipsongo, west Kenya over the past 5 years you have helped turn a slum into a village of two roomed houses, built by the community with your funds. You have empowered the women with training to make & sell soaps, candles, crafts & to grow their own maize. A preschool is now being built. The community is on the way to self-sufficiency.
•This year we plan to build a small school for Special Needs Children in Songa Embele, within the Mukuru slum in Nairobi. Poor slum children avoid hunger with a daily meal in school but disabled children stay hungry in isolation at home, one room, no windows. There are no Special Needs Schools for slum children, this will be the first for Mukuru, a population of 700,000. Already 70 children attend school in temporary containers. This project will also be co-funded by Electric Aid.
•Please Give Generously…… on average in Africa about 80% of a person’s income is required for food. With world recession, unemployment and higher prices even those with an income go hungry.
For The Hungry Recession Brings Starvation.
